RSA Vehicle Guide ("we", "us", "the site") operates rsavehicleguide.co.za, a free resource for South African used-car buyers, based in Cape Town, South Africa. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.
What information we collect
We collect personal information only when you choose to give it to us. Specifically:
- Email address — if you sign up for the free 60-point inspection checklist or any newsletter signup on the site.
- Name, email address, and message content — if you use the contact form to get in touch, report a scam, or send feedback.
- Payment and billing information — if you purchase a paid guide. This is collected and processed entirely by Gumroad, our payment processor — we never see or store your card details ourselves. Gumroad's own privacy policy governs that data.
We do not currently operate user accounts. If account functionality is added in future, this policy will be updated to describe what account data is collected before that feature goes live.
Why we collect it
- To send you the inspection checklist or guide you requested
- To respond to questions, scam reports, or feedback submitted through the contact form
- To send occasional updates about new guides or checklist content, if you've opted in — you can unsubscribe at any time
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
Third-party services we use
- Gumroad — processes payments for paid guides. See Gumroad's own privacy policy for how they handle your payment data.
- Google Fonts — the site loads typefaces from Google's servers, which may log your IP address as part of that request. No cookies are set by this.
- Google Analytics — helps us understand which content is useful and which pages need improvement. See our Cookie Policy for details on what this tracks and how to opt out.
How long we keep your information
We keep contact form submissions and email signups for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your enquiry or provide the service you signed up for, or until you ask us to delete it — whichever comes first.
Your rights under POPIA
As a South African resident, you have rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), including the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you
- Request a copy of it
- Ask us to correct inaccurate information
- Ask us to delete your information
- Object to how we're using it
- Lodge a complaint with South Africa's Information Regulator if you believe your information has been mishandled
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational precautions to protect the information you share with us. No website can guarantee perfect security, but we don't collect more than we need, and we don't store payment information ourselves — that's handled entirely by Gumroad.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
