What we provide
RSA Vehicle Guide provides free educational content — a 60-point vehicle inspection checklist, scam-prevention articles, and general buying guidance for South African used-car buyers — alongside optional paid tier guides with more specific, in-depth content for particular vehicle ages and purchase situations.
Not professional advice
Everything on this site — the checks, the guides, the admin and legal explainers — is general guidance based on our own research and experience. It is not a substitute for:
- A professional pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic or accredited inspector (DEKRA or similar)
- Legal advice from a qualified attorney
- Official confirmation from NaTIS, the RTIA, SAPS, or your local licensing authority on any admin process, fee, or regulation
Regulations, fees, and processes referenced on this site (such as AARTO, licence renewal, or roadworthy requirements) can change. We do our best to keep this content accurate and current, but you should always verify time-sensitive or regulatory information with the relevant official source before acting on it.
Paid guides and purchases
- Paid tier guides are digital PDF products, sold and delivered through Gumroad. Your purchase is subject to Gumroad's own terms in addition to these.
- Guides are for your personal use. You may not resell, redistribute, or publicly republish the content without our written permission.
- Because these are digital products delivered instantly, purchases are generally non-refundable once the file has been delivered — except where required by South African consumer law, or where we've made an error (wrong file, corrupted download, etc.). If something's gone wrong with your purchase, contact us and we'll sort it out.
Accounts
User accounts are not currently active on this site. If accounts are introduced in future, these terms will be updated to cover them before that feature goes live.
Intellectual property
All content on this site — text, checklists, guides, and design — is owned by RSA Vehicle Guide unless otherwise stated. You're welcome to link to our pages and quote short excerpts with attribution; you may not copy substantial portions of our content onto another site.
Third-party links
We link to external services (such as First Check for vehicle history checks, or NaTIS for official processes) where we believe they're useful. We currently have no affiliate or commercial arrangements with any third-party service linked from this site — recommendations are made on merit alone. If that changes in future, it will be declared explicitly wherever it applies.
Limitation of liability
We provide this site "as is." To the extent permitted by South African law, RSA Vehicle Guide is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site, reliance on its content, or decisions made when buying or selling a vehicle. This doesn't limit any rights you have that can't be excluded under the Consumer Protection Act.
